Privacy Policy

This page explains, in plain English, what ChatterTape collects, why, who else is involved, and how to get rid of it. If anything here is unclear, email [email protected].
Who we are
ChatterTape is a small, independent web app at chattertape.com that watches the public chat rooms of Kalshi's 15-minute crypto markets and alerts you when traders you follow post. It is run by its owner, who you can reach at [email protected]. ChatterTape is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by Kalshi.
What we collect
- Account email when you create an account, plus a verification code we email you.
- Google basic profile (your email address and Google account id) if you choose Sign in with Google. We never see your Google password.
- Password, stored only as a one-way hash. We cannot read it.
- Follows and settings: the traders you follow, which one is active on the Free plan, your display and notification preferences.
- Push notification subscriptions: the address your browser gives us for sending notifications, if you turn them on.
- Device label such as "Android Chrome" or "iPhone Safari", taken from your browser's user agent, so you can see which devices use your account.
- IP address, used for security: rate limits, login lockouts and abuse prevention. It appears in our server logs.
- Basic usage counts: requests per minute, how many devices and which approximate network (the address masked to its first three parts) an account uses, kept for 7 to 30 days to prevent abuse and account sharing. Never what you typed or read.
- Approximate location (city, region and country) that Cloudflare attaches to each visit, stored with your IP address masked to its first three parts (for example 73.12.45.x) and your device type, for your last 10 visits. We use it to spot abuse and account takeovers, never for advertising, and we do not look your address up anywhere else. Visits from our own network show no location.
- Feedback messages you send from Settings → Help, with your email only if you tick "OK to email me back".
- Stripe customer and subscription ids if you buy Pro. Your card details are entered on Stripe's pages and never reach our server.
Everything above is tied to a profile cookie (and a session cookie if you are signed in) so your follows and settings follow you between visits.
Public Kalshi chat data
ChatterTape also reads and displays messages that traders post publicly in Kalshi's market chat rooms: their public username, what they wrote, the trade cards and position badges they chose to show, and the time. This is public information on Kalshi; we store it to build the alerts, scorecards and statistics the app shows. We do not combine it with your account data except to show you the traders you chose to follow.
Kalshi traders shown in ChatterTape
If you trade on Kalshi and post in its 15-minute crypto chats, ChatterTape may display your public username, what you wrote there, the trade cards and badges you chose to show, and statistics built from them (win rate, posted profit, chat calls, mentions). Any trader can ask to be removed at chattertape.com/optout. Once we have confirmed the request is really from you, we stop saving anything about your username, nobody can follow you, and everything stored under your name is deleted, within 7 days.
Why we use it
- To run the app: show your alerts, keep your follows and settings, sync them across your devices, and send push notifications you asked for.
- To keep the service safe: rate limits, login protection and abuse prevention.
- To take payments for Pro and the Live chart add-on through Stripe, and to know which plan you are on.
- To email you things you asked for: verification codes, password resets, replies to your feedback.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Third parties we rely on
- Stripe processes payments and holds your card details and billing history.
- Resend delivers our emails (codes, reset links, feedback copies).
- Google, only if you use Sign in with Google.
- Cloudflare sits in front of the site for HTTPS and protection against attacks, and sees connection details such as your IP address.
Each of them handles data under their own privacy policies. We share only what is needed for them to do their part.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies, all for the app to work: a profile cookie that holds your follows and settings, a session cookie when you are signed in, a short-lived cookie during Google sign-in, and a security token. No advertising or tracking cookies, and no third-party analytics.
How long we keep it
- Account data, follows, settings and push subscriptions: as long as your account exists.
- Profiles without an account that have no follows and are not used for 30 days are removed automatically.
- Sign-in sessions expire after 30 days; verification codes and reset links expire within minutes and are single use.
- Server logs, including IP addresses, are kept for 14 days.
- Visit records (approximate location, masked IP, device type) are kept for 30 days, and never more than the last 10 per device.
- Feedback messages are kept until handled and then removed from time to time.
- Payment records stay with Stripe for as long as tax and accounting rules require.
Deleting your account
Open Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes your account, follows, settings, notification subscriptions and signed-in sessions right away. You can also email [email protected] from your account address and we will do it for you. Your Stripe billing history stays with Stripe as the law requires.
Age
ChatterTape is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if that has happened, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and say so in the app. Continuing to use ChatterTape after a change means you accept the new version.
